Philosophy of Teaching Statement
My philosophy of education is that I believe every student has the right to learn and the right to an education. When in the classroom it is my goal to cultivate an inclusive, educationally stimulating environment where students can challenge themselves and each other to grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. I aspire to create student-centered learning environments and I encourage in students the ability to assess and initiate things independently and my classes are always tailored to the needs of my students. I work hard to differentiate learning so that each student's distinct abilities are highlighted. My ideal classroom setting is one that is focused on the students. I make an effort to design learning settings in which the students work in groups on projects while I visit each group to facilitate conversations. I aim to create a space that is supported through activity based learning where lessons are designed to have students learning through doing: trial-and-error, solving problems, and creating new solutions. I employ the use of higher-order thinking skills from Bloom’s Taxonomy such as ‘creating’, ‘inquiring’ and ‘critiquing’. I aim to have all my students think critically about themselves and the world around them.
A positive attitude towards learning and a growth mindset are important for promoting the high expectations and standard that I set in my classroom. I practice asking my students to set their own goals and take steps toward achieving their goals each lesson.
I aspire to be a teacher who inspires critical, independent thinking and a love of learning in all the students I encounter.
